Brief Report:

Lala Lajpatari College of Commerce & Economics was started in the year 1972 under the leadership of visionary philanthropist Late Shri. Ram Prasad Gupta. The college is named after the great freedom fighter Lala Lajpatrai. On 28th Jan 2023, the college celebrated its Golden Jubilee year and to commemorate the occasion, His Excellency, the Honourable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshiyari had graced the formal occasion. The Honourable Governor thanked the Trust for inviting him to college and giving this opportunity to speak on him that too on the occasion of his Birth Anniversary ( 28th January), highlighting on the life and works of Lala Lajpatrai Honourable Governor made us travel the time when Lala Lajpatrai lived. As Lalaji’s life was dedicated to his country completely, hence even today wherever the present Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi goes he takes along the memories of such people whose entire life was dedicated to the cause of nation and its people. He communicates to connect as the great leaders of pre-independence era did. Each and every students have their own and unique intelligence and accordingly they move ahead in life. But the students of Lala Lajpatrai’s contemporary times studied not for themselves but for their country. The trio -Lal Bal Pal had emerged as the true-blue leaders of the country during those days whom each countryman followed and were ready to die at their one call. Even in those days there prevailed social evils and for people like Lala Lajpatrai there awaited a double responsibility cum challenge – first, attaining freedom for the country and second, to reform the society to eradicate its evils. One side he participated in the freedom movement while he also joined the Arya Samaj to reform the society and free it from various social evils. Addressing our young students who aspired for UPSC that taking UPSC conducted examinations is not for becoming officers but to serve the people of India. Though he is known as the Punjab Kesari but in real sense of the term he was Hind Kesari. He also enlightened our students on the importance of values stating that a generation that does not value its culture cannot prosper. He further emphasized on the importance of all round holistic development of students. He concluded his address by encouraging students to remain connected to their roots by quoting “Run your family, run your business & industry but also contribute to society because without a perfect society, seeking a perfect world is impossible". Dr. Kamal Gupta the Chairman of the college trust felicitated Honourable Governor and delivered the welcome address. Shri Koshiyari unveiled a special memento to commemorate the occasion which has been the annual tradition of the college. The function got concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by our college Trustee Dr. Sunil Gupta followed by National Anthem.

  • Students and staff were energized after listening to Governor’s fiery and touching address on Lala Lajpatrai as an intellectual, educationist and a social worker.
  • Students were inspired by being the part of time travel from the present to the contemporary time and world of Lalaji that he lived in.
  • They also understood the thought line behind the foundation of this college.
  • Above all, all present for the memorial address understood Lala Lajpatrai’s life, work, contribution, and sacrifice with gratitude.
